Visa travel requirements

The Philippines is an exciting holiday destination between Japan and Australia, and only a short drive from Hong Kong. In this article, I will discuss the visa you need to visit.

Visit for a few weeks?

Of course, the first thing you need before traveling abroad is a passport. In the 1990s, you had to send your passport to the local consulate in the country you wanted to visit. Your visa would return to you a few weeks later. Traveling is now easier, and many countries allow visa-free entry. The Philippines falls into this category. Tourists in good personal status can enter the country for up to 21 days as long as they:

Have at least 6 months left on your passport after you intend to leave the Philippines;

At least 2 blank pages in the passport for any entry and exit stamps; and

You have evidence that you intend to leave the country within the stipulated time (return ticket).

Who is eligible for this hassle-free ticket? The Philippines accepts visitors from 150 countries for a stay of up to 3 weeks. This covers almost everyone on the planet. We can use this entry for business or vacation purposes; there are no restrictions on this temporary stay.

The longest stay

What would you do if you wanted to stay longer than 21 days? Long-term stays require a visa from the local Philippine consulate. The visa sought is a Temporary Visitor visa for Business and Leisure (9A). For a stay of up to 59 days. There are also some requirements when you apply for the actual stamped visa that will appear in your passport:

  • The passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay.
  • At least 2 blank pages in your passport for visa and any border stamps;
  • Signed and completed application form (payment required);
  • A certified passport-size photo;
  • A copy of your ticket and/or confirmed itinerary;
  • Other documents to support your visa application (this may include invitations from friends or family with whom you live, etc.).

These individuals are representative of long-term travelers in any country.

What about business travelers?
Business travelers must also provide a sponsorship letter from the company detailing the purpose of the visit. These include an invitation letter from a Philippine business contact.
